Fly-In 2005 - Grand Swing Thru' the Woods

What do you get when you arrive at the intersection of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 80 next April 1? A hotel full of upwards of 150 square dancers gyrating and splashing and buying exciting baskets o' fun! And who will be there to choreograph the madness?

The 13th Philadelphia Freedom Fly-In will be held April 1 - 3, 2005 at the Ramada Inn - Lake Harmony, PA, nestled in the scenic Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania.

Mike DeSisto, Tom Miller, and Kris Jensen will be calling levels Mainstream through Challenge 1 in three halls concurrently, supplemented by GCA callers. Workshops, take-no-prisoner sessions, and class-level Mainstream dancing promise something for everyone.

Be creative for the Saturday evening IAGSDC banner dance and decorate a rubber ducky (prizes will be awarded!). Team calling by both staff and GCA callers will be featured.

And be sure to bring your bathing suit for the special indoor heated snowperson-shaped pool dance later that night. Last year we had 10 squares in the water!

Need a break from dancing? Visit the nearby quaint Victorian-era town of Jim Thorpe with interesting shops in a rugged mountain setting, The Crossings Factory Outlet Mall with over 100 leading brand stores and no sales tax on clothing or shoes, or perhaps the many regional craft and antique galleries.

For those who crave the outdoors, a short nature trail starts just behind the hotel. Nearby state parks just minutes away offer longer hiking trails with waterfalls, whitewater river rapids, mountains, meadows, and a unique Ice Age boulder field.
