2001 A Dance Odyssey

Philadelphia Freedom Fly-In IX

Once again it is time to look at the calendar and block off the dates for one of the premiere lesbigay square dance events. The Philadelphia Independence Squares proudly present their ninth fly-in on March 16, 17, and 18, 2001. This may be your last chance to dance at an international event before heading off to Vancouver for the somewhat earlier than usual Convention. But even if Vancouver is bigger, we are prepared to match their line-up of callers with our own international sensations.

Closest to home is Mr. Dayle Hodge. Everyone on the East Coast should have the opportunity of dancing to Dayle. And whenever we invite him to call, the turnout is spectacular and the energy is unmatched. For his first appearance with our club, we would like to extend a warm mid-Atlantic welcome to Mr. Mike Kellogg from California. Mike was a big hit at the Convention in LA, and we know that you'll enjoy his superb choreography and his winning personality. And finally, the caller who needs no introduction. A favorite in Philadelphia since we first produced cream cheese... Ms. Anne Uebelacker. Anne has been one of the staunchest supporters of our club practically from our inception. In addition to calling at our dances and fly-ins, she has taught many of our GCA callers and she has even "officiated" at a union ceremony for 2 of our dancers. We never get enough of Anne, but we promise to share her with all of our visitors.

Please have a look at the calendar of dancing for our Fly-In. As always, this is a work in progress, but it gives a general idea of what we will be offering.

This year, we return to New Hope, Pennsylvania, where our club has had three very successful fly-ins. New Hope was also instrumental in the formative years of the Independence Squares since our monthly Barn Dance used to attract New Yorkers, Philadelphians and people from the surrounding area. New Hope is an attractive village on the Delaware River. Along with Lambertville, New Jersey, New Hope offers a charming mix of antique shops, specialty stores, nice restaurants and beautiful scenery.

Our host hotel is the Best Western Inn, New Hope. Just a little bit west of town at 6426 Lower York Rd. (Rte. 202), this motel has ample free parking, comfortable if simple rooms and a very attractive room rate. It is only $81 per night (plus relevant taxes) for one to four people. Please mention the Independence Squares and 2001: A Dance Odyssey when you call 800.HOPE.202 or 215.862.5221 to make reservations.

The cost for the actual fly-in is a very reasonable $65 until March 16. Please send your information to Mr. Bob Rougeau at the following address:
